Appleseed Marksmanship & Heritage Clinics for June

Waterman, IL. June 2-3

Alton, IL. June 9-10

Bloomington, IL. June 9-10

Clinton, IL. June 9-10

McLean, IL. June 23-24

Effingham, IL. June 30- July1

I would bet that most of the forum members would benefit from attending an Appleseed Marksmanship and Heritage Clinic. Who wouldn't like to learn to be a better marksman and learn about your American heritage. Its summer time and time to get off the couch. There are may Appleseed Events planned for the summer so there is no excuse for not coming out to at least one Appleseed event. School is out so get the kids out from behind the computer and their video games. Bring the grandkids, the neighbors, the wife, the girl friend. Just don't bring the wife and the girl friend to same event. You will be glad you came.

How many Illinois Carry members have attended an Appleseed Event? If not why not?

It's a bit far to go for someone up north. I live close to Freeport, IL and would love to take my grandson to an Appleseed event. Isn't there a way to get an event up near Rockford? There's also the Tri County Gun Club near Polo, IL., a nice facility they have there.

+1 what TyGuy posted.

Buzz perhaps some 'seeds behind teh Cheddar Curtain are closer to you. Border raiding is allowed and encouraged!

If anyone is looking for a way to introduce their fence sitting friends to shooting - take one them with you.

Appleseed voluteers will take them from complete newbies to wanting to go shooting again in one weekend.

I so highly recommend taking an Appleseed course.

I was taught basic rifle marksmanship by some of the best instructors in the US Army.

I still learned a lot and relearned a lot that I had forgotten.

Buzz - ya gotta talk them into putting one on at Kenny's outdoor range again. It should be closer to you.

As I understand it - an impasse was reached in getting them out there again. There are other places around the state-line area that might agree to hosting an event. I'm looking now at the Wisconsin events and they look to be quite a trip up beyond the border. I guess Waterman, IL is still my best bet - but it's an hour and a half drive.

It's really sad to me that none of these events are close to me.

I have three daughters and I want them to get involved with this.

If we had an Appleseed event in Elgin, Sycamore or something I would take them. I can't pack them in the car and drive them to Central Illinois.

Elgin to Waterman is only an hour...

As I understand it they train the students to make hits out to 500 yards consistantly. The only range that I know of in the Northern IL area is the Old

Midwest Training Center that Black Water had in Mount Carrol. I hear that an ex CPD guy name Paul is opening it again.

Maybe they would be open to hosting an apple seed event. They definitely have the distance there.

Is Scales Mound still allowing people to shoot at long distance?

Tri county is only a 200 yard rifle range as I remember.

Thanks Bowfisher for listing out the June events. :)

We are working on getting a range in the Freeport area and over by Galena. Stay tuned and keep checking the listing for shoots to see when a new one appears. Go here => http://www.appleseed...s_schedule2.php to find the shoot nearest you. You can filter it by state to Illinois, WI or IA if you're in the northern part of the state. We were invited to start having Appleseed shoots at the Black Water range in Mount Carroll when it shut down. If it opens up again, we'll see about setting up some shoots.

Also, we are always interested in referrals. If you have a range or private land for which you'd like to host an Appleseed event, you can let me know and we can email privately to make that a reality. That, to me, is the best way to get an Appleseed close to you! :D

Thanks everyone for doing all you can to get Concealed Carry in Illinois!!

On the subject of gear, I've got a Marlin Model GA22 that has a tube magazine and open sights. Would it be better suited to an Appleseed shoot if I were to have a scope mounted on it? I'm thinking a 4X, medium priced scope would do fine. Any suggestions on this?

Also, will the tube magazine give the boy a hindrance during the Appleseed course of fire? Boy, I hope not!!

TyGuy - I totally agree. I've used Scopes and IronSights at AS.

As I - ahem - age - it depends. I use IS for Centerfire, scope on my rimfire bolties, and depending on who I am "lending out" a .22 - sometimes offer a choice.

I had the opportunity over @ the Rosebud, MO Appleseed to go KD @ 400 m with Iron Sights (AR-15). It was quite wonderful to see the close practice (25m) transitioned nicely to KD.

Too bad I cannot be two places at once! KD @ Rosebud is the same weekend as this shoot (http://www.eventbrit...vent/2875152659).
