Get a Florida permit

Sent application Express mail 3/23/2011. Used a shootingsafely.com certificate from 2008 (so I may have procrastinated a little) and a Gunsite 150 cert (24 training hours) from Boone County, Indiana from last summer. Used a money order for payment. I'll keep the board updated!

Check cashed 3/31, ink prints submitted, done cheerfully by Woodridge PD for a fee. I work near there and they

took walkins. The CSO that did my prints thought it was cool, and was very careful to follow FLA's directions.

Permit issued 4/27. Watching the mail for the envelope!

WOOOHOOO! My Florida permit is in the mail! I have been calling the automated system every day so I could track the timeline. What I sent in the package was the application, a USPS money order, the fingerprint card (done by my local police with no hassle or charge), a passport photo taken at Jewel and a copy of my green hunter's education card front and back. I mailed it on 3/24/11, it was received on 4/1/11 and it was approved and mailed out today 5/3/11. I hope that might help anyone else thinking about getting a Florida permit.

What about still being on active duty? For those who don't know: DD 214 is given to you upon leaving the service. Would a copy of active duty ID work?

yes current Military ID.

Training documentation

Sweet thanks I didn't see that when I was on their site. I ordered the forms today. Thanks again

What is the notary signature at the bottom of the form?

That's to document that it's really you. Bring the form to a currency exchange or UPS store that advertises having a Notary on duty. It will cost you about $1 for a notary seal. You present your drivers license, and the notary certifies that it's really you, and affixes his/her stamp.

Often, your local bank will provide notary service for free.

Does a person have to get another NRA or appropriate certificate for renewal?

No. You will not be required to take an additional course for renewal of your Florida permit. You may need to resubmit your course completion certificate or whatever you initially submitted.

I have renewed twice. All bases on the same course.

I had previously had a CCW permit from KY back in 2000, I sent a copy of that, my fingerprint card which the Sherman Police was more than happy to help me do for free (The Cheif said he is for allowing CCW), Notary signed, FOID copy (for s&g), along with everything else at the end of May. Received my license at the end of June! Was a little concerned that my CCW training back in 2000 from KY would not suffice, but it did!!

I must have called the tracking number everyday after 2 1/2 weeks went by, then heard those sweet words "Your license has been approved and has been mailed to you."

Illinois you gotta get out of the stone age! COME ON!!

a military base did my prints free of charge and i was told by the lady at the desk that most will print just about anyone. passport photo and notary were 10 bucks each. so the cost of a stamp license fee of 75, 10 for prints and 10 for picture, 95 bucks and out the door. does anyone know if New Mexico honors it? i cant find anything hard online about it.

According to handgunlaw.us NM will honor a non-res. FL license.

Sweet I'm driving threw there in a few months I know they are cool about open carry but I've read some horror stories and didn't want to take a chance subjecting my wife to police harrasment since this will be her first time around any sort of carry

It says on www.handgunlaw.us that in New Mexico, "No Fireams Signs have the force of law" Just something to be aware of.

Thanks I'll check that site out. New mexicos site does not have allot of information about whose permit they accept just that they no longer accept Utah.

Has anybody sent for a Florida permit lately? If so, how long did it take for you to get it back?

It took mine 7 weeks but they sent it back because i forgot to write the police stations address on the back of the fingerprint card. I'm sure that delayed things a week or so.

They cashed my check on jun. 8th and I received my card on monday, Jul 30.

Thanks. I've heard of folks getting it in 2-3 weeks....and cases where it takes 8 weeks. I sent in two fingerprint cards (one ink, one live scan fingerprints that were printed on to the card), and triple checked the info before I sent them. *knocks on wood* Hopefully it comes in a couple of weeks.
