The anti-gun city of Chicago will be hosting its first pro Second Amendment Town Hall Meeting. We welcome all Chicago and Cook County residents (not that others are not welcome)to come out and show your support. It is imparitive that Chicago and Cook County residents come out to show your support in order to help dispell the myth that concealed carry is only a concern among white males down state, rather than a state wide concern among residents regardless of their ethnic background or geographic location within the state. It is equally important because 65% of the state's population resides in Cook County, and until the Chicago and Cook county politicians are forced to change their positions or loose their jobs, Illinois will not see a concealed carry law! Please feel free to copy and paste the flyer above and encourage as many as possible to come out and show their support. Its past time to bring this issue to the source of the problem, Chicago/Cook county!

Dr. G - Your students did a wonderful job with the meeting tonight! It was very well organized, everything was ready when

we arrived, and the panel of speakers was first rate! You are to commended!

 

I was impressed with the mix of the audience as well - we had young,older, men, lots of women, families and all very

receptive to the issue of Right to Carry.

 

I was very encouraged by the number of folks expressing an interest in IGOLD and in holding town hall meetings in their

own communities.

 

Dr. Paula Bratich and I commented to each other afterwards - Mayor Daley may be unaware of it but history was made

inside the city of Chicago tonight - the FIRST Right to Carry town hall meeting was held within the city -

and it's only the beginning!

Wow! I wish I had known about this!! I and a few more friends would have been there, we live in Cook\Chicago. I only noticed this thread and this subsection because I saw molly's response to it from the main forum page. Kinda sucks to miss something like this when it's in your back yard and you just didn't know about it!! I went to the McHenry town hall meeting, back before these threads got assigned their own subsection, and that was way out of my way.

 

Please, get rid of the subsection and make these threads stickies in main sections or locked announcement threads that link to these threads until the event is over. Burying stuff in subsections is not the way to get these events the exposure they need, it limits it. I know I'm not the only board member who missed this event and only found out about it today.

 

I'm glad it sounds like the turnout was good though.

No, but since it was at a campus facility I didn't really expect any.

 

Would have been nice but I have grown not to depend on the media -

the huge movement going on in the state of Illinois has progressed on its own via the people reaching people -

It's fantastic that we're proving the issue of Right to Carry is self-sustaining and marches on regardless

of those that stand against it!

I also have been concerned about the town hall info getting "lost" up here in a sub-forum.

Actually the sub-forum was designed for the planning process and is intended to keep those threads from

getting "lost" in all the new daily posts of our regular forums.

 

I think a good compromise might be to keep our planning threads up here - but make sure to post details

of the actual event in the Illinois Right to Carry regular threads as a sticky?

It's always good to get feedback and hear others ideas. And while I am not an administrator or moderator, I am the one that suggested we create the Town Hall Educational Opportunities Subforum The reason this was done is two-fold.

 

First of all, it was to avoid a noticable redundancy, rather that repeating a lengthy discussion over and over on how to plan, organize and hold these meetings, each time the subject came up. I suggested we assign a separate forum in which to post these threads. This was done over a year ago I believe, and it languished there due to the fact no meeting have been planned until as late. Now that the "fires are spreading" we are seeing more people willing to organize these very worthwhile meetings.

 

Secondly, By placing these threads in one place, it makes it much easier for meeting planners to find these threads. There is no need to perform a search to find threads where these meetings are discussed. Yes, things can be missed. But sometimes you have to break from routine and just have a look around. That's how you sometimes find life's rewards.

 

There is also a Community Educational Opportunities Subforum where we discuss other opportunities to introduce ourselves and educate the public concerning concealed carry. Take a moment to check it out.

A great way to keep abreast of upcoming events is by checking the IllinoisCarry Calendar. You can find it at the top left of the page, directly under the Join the ISRA banner ad. Click on Calendar and you're instantly looking at the events planned for the current month. Other months can be viewed also.

In the top right hand corner of the screen while in forums there's a blue box with your screen name in it. Hit the drop down arrow, choose "My Settings". Scroll to the bottom of that screen, hit the drop down arrow on "View new content method", select "show me all content that I have not read". Click "save changes". That ought to do it.

Yes, many thanks to all who had a hand in making this successful. When RTC comes to Illinois, we want it to extend to ALL corners of the state. With the concentration of voters in Cook County and Chicago proper, it's imperative that we get the facts to them so they can make an informed decision about their safety and the access to self-defense tools.

Good job Valinda and Gerald and everyone else involved. It was nice to meet the folks involved and I think I'll follow up with some of the neighborhood orgs who share my interests in martial arts, campcraft, etc.

 

Unfortunately I was only able to get one die-hard ISRA supporter from work to come with me, but about 40 others heard about the issue and were definitely receptive.

 

It was an enjoyable event and even the fannypackers were kind of amusing in their own way, lol.

I would like to thank Valinda Rowe, Dr. Paula Brattich, Mike Wiseman, Nubian Malik, David Lemieux, Mick Paskiewicz, and John Pearson for helping to make a successful first time effort at a pro-gun Town Hall Meeting in anti-gun chicago. I thought the program went very well overall. I have spoken with a number of students and employees that attended the meeting who all said that they were both informed and inspired by the day’s events. At least two female student have asked about purchasing a gun as well as receiving professional firearms training. We even inspired my 90 year old aunt to go to IGOLD with me next week! None of this would have been possible without both your participation and help in promoting this event. I would also like to thank NJR and the other Illinoiscarry.com members, as well as members of the general community who supported this event. Thank you again.

I attended the Chicago Town Hall meeting at NEIU on Wednesday night. It was a historic event with strong representation from the African American community in support of RKBA, but all races were represented. As a Latino-American, the notion in the public and the media that minority groups do not support Right to Carry in Chicago was conclusively dispelled at that meeting. It was also great to catch up with fellow gun right supporters. Valinda and the other speakers were engaging and very insightful. I hope there are more of these town hall meetings; I strongly feel, as I sensed the excitement and support in the crowd, that these Chicago Town Hall meetings will break the strangle hold that Mayor Daley and his gun control supporters have had on Chicago residents all these years. Regards to everyone.
