Denmark116 Posted April 15, 2005 at 06:56 PM Posted April 15, 2005 at 06:56 PM Mack: The couse is as follows Hoffman Estates - Saturday, May 28, 2005, 2549 W. Golf Rd., $95Brian Kapnick, 630-205-1369. , brian@kapnick.netClass types: Basic Pistol, Instructor Training It is both of the courses in one day. I have emailed for clarification, and I am aware of the test that is required and that 95% is considered the passing grade to be an Instructor.
mack69 Posted April 16, 2005 at 01:20 PM Posted April 16, 2005 at 01:20 PM Again I repeat...Good Luck...let us know how it turns out, what the test covers etc...be kind of interesting I think....mack
Denmark116 Posted April 16, 2005 at 03:00 PM Posted April 16, 2005 at 03:00 PM Well I got my response, no dice... Here is is The $95 covers the NRA Basic Pistol class. To be followed up with the NRA Instructor rating. It is a separate class the fee is $300 for the Instructor rating. You do not have to take the NRA Pistol class to become an instructor but you must prove your knowledge. Neither class is a one day class but that is how the NRA has set up the website. For further information and times as I list the classes on the NRA website to find students but I hold the classes when it is convenient for both you and me. Any questions feel free to call me @ 630-XXX-XXXX (Phone number removed by Denmark) I think at this time, I will be going after my PA permit, as it will give me my primary states that I am looking for and does not have a training requirement. I might go after the Florida permit at another time though. Hopefully, before I need the extra states I will have an Illinois permit and I will not have to worry at all.... A man can dream can't he?
Kaeghl Posted May 3, 2005 at 01:06 PM Posted May 3, 2005 at 01:06 PM I'm a happy camper. My Florida concealed firearm license showed up in the mail yesterday, just before I had to head off to work. It only took about 58 days from dropping it off in the mail until it showed up. I used my DD214 sheet 4, showing honorable discharge and weapons training for the certification of proficiency with weapons, even with the faint and almost unreadable print (4th layer of a carbon copy form). Now I get to go pester the local congress critter about 29 states trusting me, so why won't IL. (and Blago and Daley) trust me? Just goes to show if you want it you can get it
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 11, 2006 at 11:53 PM Posted February 11, 2006 at 11:53 PM Hello everyone. This is my first post. It was said earlier that you could apply to FL with a DD214. I am still in the Marine Corps so would my DD214 still work since I am not really considered a verteran yet? Actually do I even have a DD214 yet since I havent been discharged If I do I don't know where it is or who I get it fromBLAKE
45superman Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:18 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:18 AM Welcome aboard, Blake. That's a good question--to tell you the truth, I hadn't considered what a currently active duty service member would do. You won't get a DD214 until you ETS (if that's what they call it in the Marines). I'll look around and see if I can find anything. In the meantime, maybe someone who knows will chime in.
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:25 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:25 AM Thanks I would appreciate it. we call it an EAS (End of Active Service). I want to help any way I can because I want to be able to CC when i get out and move back to IL.
45superman Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:33 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 12:33 AM Well, still haven't found much. By going to this link, and scrolling down a bit, I found this (with the parts that I thought were most relevant in boldface): (h) Demonstrates competence with a firearm by any one of the following: 1. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or a similar agency of another state; 2. Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course; 3. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; 4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement; 5. Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition or military service; 6. Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such license has been revoked for cause; or 7. Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor; A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any of the courses or classes; or an affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught said course or class attesting to the completion of the course or class by the applicant; or a copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms competition shall constitute evidence of qualification under this paragraph; any person who conducts a course pursuant to subparagraph 2., subparagraph 3., or subparagraph 7., or who, as an instructor, attests to the completion of such courses, must maintain records certifying that he or she observed the student safely handle and discharge the firearm; I'm guessing that if you could get someone in your chain of command to sign an affadavit attesting to the fact that you've had marksmanship training, you would be good to go. I'm not very sure of this, though. I'll keep digging.
junglebob Posted February 12, 2006 at 02:11 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 02:11 AM Blake, Welcome to the forum. You mentioned wanting to carry when you get out and move back to Illinois. Right now a Florida permit or any other won't allow you to carry in Illinois. We are a "right denied" state when it comes to carry. Don't know when you're getting out, hope we have it by then. A Florida permit would allow you to carry in 30 some other states however.
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 12, 2006 at 03:35 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 03:35 AM I don't get out for just over 2 years so I have some time but I am still wanting to help Illinois get CC. Also because I want to CC when I do move back. I think I am going to go for the Florida permit so I can say I can carry in several other states EXCEPT my own. Thanks for checkin out the DD214 deal. I have a great deal of weapons training, force protection, and use of force training and I can't carry in my state, that sucks. And to add to that I am a law abiding citizen. I am preaching to the choir, sorry.
45superman Posted February 12, 2006 at 03:48 AM Posted February 12, 2006 at 03:48 AM Hey, don't apologize--having you in the fight for CCW in this state makes us that much stronger. Your point about getting out of state permits in order to add more force to the question of why your own state doesn't trust you to responsibly defend your own life is well taken. That has more to do with my getting the two permits that I have (and thinking about at least one more) than for actually using the permits in the states that accept them. By the way, if you haven't already, you might check the thread about getting a Pennsylvania permit (or go to Packing.org, and look there). They aren't accepted in nearly as many places as a Florida permit, but they're only $20, and you don't have to provide fingerprints or proof of training.
junglebob Posted February 12, 2006 at 02:04 PM Posted February 12, 2006 at 02:04 PM Having a Pennsylvania permit doesn't allow me to carry in Illinois. It does allow me to carry in Missouri, and Kentucky were I go sometimes and traveling throgh Indiana so it is useful. It only took 10 days to get mine from when I mailed the application. If I had Florida or Utah I could carry in Ohio when visiting my daughter and family. This is one reason Utah interests me. Blake, using an out of state permit as an argument for carry in Illinois is one that others here have used. In one instance I used my Pa permit as ID. I'd lost my wallet and was making out a check at a farm store. The clerk asked for ID and I said I'd lost my wallet and didn't have a DL. Then I remembered the PA license, which I keep in the front pocket of my Uncle Mikes Gun Pack, pulled it out and said can you use this. He looked at it and took my check. Yes, I was "fanny pack transporting".
gravyboy77 Posted February 12, 2006 at 04:05 PM Posted February 12, 2006 at 04:05 PM Hey guys is there anywhere around the schaumburg area that gives florida permit training?
45superman Posted February 12, 2006 at 04:20 PM Posted February 12, 2006 at 04:20 PM LCPLOMBS, I asked your question on another forum (which has a lot of FL residents). One guy said that some currently serving friends of his just photocopied their military ID, and used that (successfully). Another said that the application includes a qualification form that, if you could get it signed by someone in your chain of command, would probably work. He also said that if you call the office in FL, they're very friendly and helpful--here's the number: (850) 245-5691, and here's their email address: DOLWeb@doacs.state.fl.us. Gravyboy, I think any NRA pistol training qualifies, but I don't know what's available in the Schaumburg area. Mack probably does, though.
sctman800 Posted February 12, 2006 at 05:17 PM Posted February 12, 2006 at 05:17 PM they're very friendly and helpful Being from Illinois this is something that was hard to get used to during my non-resident CCW process. I have Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Florida and Utah; my wife has Pennsylvania and Utah. I had a couple questions during my quest and these were allways taken care of by courtious and friendly people. My wife had problems because of a person with the same name and an arrest that was dropped but not purged from her record. This did take a bit more paperwork but everything was resolved in the end with her permits. What we did find is that officals in other more gun friendly states will HELP you get a CCW if you ate entitled to it. They are very careful to make sure you are qualified, but if you are they will work with you. Jim.
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 13, 2006 at 01:51 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 01:51 AM Thanks for the checkin up on training. Im going to call down there and hopefully just the military ID will work. It would save me a lot of hastle as some of you who may have formerly been in the military. Sending things up the chain of command can be a huge pain in the a** but if thats whats gotta happen thats what I will do
45superman Posted February 13, 2006 at 01:59 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 01:59 AM Sending things up the chain of command can be a huge pain in the a** but if thats whats gotta happen thats what I will do It would have been a huge pain, in my old unit in the Army--I thought maybe the Marines treated their guys more like responsible adults than that, though (Marines always seemed pretty squared away in comparison to a lot of the officers we had).
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:37 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:37 AM I am not complaining, while they do take good care of us and depending on your unit do treat you as adults, as far as getting what you need from them whatever that may be, your going to go through way more time and effort than necessary. HUFUCKINGRAH i still love the marine corps
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:44 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:44 AM Heres another question some of you may be knowldgeable with. I got to thinking, are we even allowed to carry or possess Oleoresin Capsicum or batons? Both of which I have in arms reach in my jeep, I am qualified with OC and batons from my riot trainging but I don't even know if its legal to have or carry and weather it varies from state to state. As far as WashDC goes I think it is illegal to have OC and batons are considered a deadly weapon right from the start. I would definately prefer a gun to both of these especially if my opponent has a gun, Its like going to a gunfight with the knife. But as for now thats what I have. I am more curious as to what the deal in IL is with these items.
45superman Posted February 13, 2006 at 03:04 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 03:04 AM LCPLCOMBS,I have recently started carrying OC spray--no restrictions on that in IL (that I know of). I'm thinking of adding a baton--I can't find anything in the Criminal Code that would forbid it. By the way, I'm paraplegic, and confined to a wheelchair. That means a couple things--I can't escape, and I can't fight very effectively without some help. It also means that with the wheelchair, I have places to hang extra "stuff" (like a 4 oz. can of Fox Labs spray, and a good sized expandable baon). By the way, I carry a .45 in a fanny pack, which is technically legal (see 6 seconds from safety). Still, I'd rather not ever have to draw, and explain to the police and prosecuting attorney that this really is the law (a lot of them don't know that, or would try to convict you anyway, even if they do know), so it's nice to have something between harsh language and the .45.
LCPLCOMBS Posted February 13, 2006 at 03:12 AM Posted February 13, 2006 at 03:12 AM I agree, Im glad we are afforded atleast some measure of protection, doesn't that sound bad? You are right, it is good to have something for situations between exchange of words and a need for deadly force. I recommend ASP's expandable baton, Nice piece of equipment. Our guards use them here.
anonymous too Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:48 PM Posted February 13, 2006 at 02:48 PM Hey guys is there anywhere around the schaumburg area that gives florida permit training? The FIRST Steps class we teach in Plainfield will cover the FL training requirement. Check the FST website from the links for more details.

anonymous too Posted February 13, 2006 at 06:34 PM Posted February 13, 2006 at 06:34 PM The same course is offered in Bensenville monthly by a different instructor for the same price. Check the NRA's "find a local course" listings under education.

anonymous too Posted February 13, 2006 at 06:47 PM Posted February 13, 2006 at 06:47 PM Bensenville is closer, but Plainfield is only about 40 some odd miles from you and the store and range are just off of I-55.
45superman Posted February 15, 2006 at 07:21 PM Posted February 15, 2006 at 07:21 PM LCPLCOMBS, did you call 'em yet? If so, what did they say?
Ocellairs Posted January 13, 2007 at 04:43 PM Posted January 13, 2007 at 04:43 PM Sent my renewal form in on the 26th of Dec. Just rcvd permit back today (01/13/07). That's an 18 day turn around time. Way to go Florida. I was expecting a 4-5 week turn around.
